Edmonde Dantès - Edmonde Dantès Is the main character in this story. He is engaged to his fiance Mercédès. He lives his life, below middle class but still enjoys life because of his fiance and his best friend, Fernand Mondego. Dantès, is a very intelligent, honest, and loving man. But then when his friend Fernand frames him for a crime he did not commit,he turns bitter and vengeful. Dantes is sent to prison where he eventually gets himself free and becomes wealthy. He realizes that all but one person had double crossed him, Monsieur Morrel. Dantes figures out that it was Fernand who set him up, Dantes also figure out that his dad starved him self to death once he was sent to prison. When Dantes finds this out he creates three identities in order to save his friend, and to gain vengeance on all that have double crossed him. Dantes is very changed once he sets out to gain vengeance. He doesn't just want to kill everyone who has double crossed him, but make them suffer like he did in prison.By the end of the story Dantes has hurt many people, most of which had nothing to do with him being sent to prison. Dantes realizes that in order to move on in life he needed to do this. He also realizes that revenge isnt always the answer, because it can hurt people that are innocent.

Abbé Faria- Is a former priest and brilliant thinker of whom Dantès meets in prison. Abbé Faria becomes almost a father for Dantès’s. During their years in prisoners, he teaches Dantès history, science, art, and many languages. He then gives to Dantès his hidden fortune, of which Dantes uses to gain revenge on Fernado, and everyone else who double crossed him.

Fernand Mondego- was a former friend of Dantes, until he double crossed Dantes. Fernand was always jealous of Dantes growing up. Even though he was much richer and better off, he always was jealous of the little things that made Dantes happy. When Dantes meats the love of his life, Fernand is jealous, and wants her for him self. Seeking help to do so, Fernand hatches a plan to double cross Dantes in order to have Mercedes for himself. He succeeds in his plot, which ends up putting Dantes in jail for many years. Mercedes who is shocked, and saddened deeply marries Fernand in the hope that it will make her feel better. When Dantes figures this out, he know his friend was really never his fried, and is a major target of his revenge. Throughout out the story Fernand ends up becoming a wealthy man, who is married to the girl he love. He never realized that karma would come back and bite him in the butt. Eventually he is sent to prison to suffer just like Dantes.

Baron Danglars- Is the man who unfolded the idea to frame Dantes. Baron is the one that you would think Dantes would lay all of his revenge on. But he is actually the one that gets of the easiest. Dantes doesn't kill him, but rather, his family dies, and he is sent to prison where he learn what he did was wrong.This character is very different then the others. Instead of being shocked by what had happened to him. He changes his life he eventually show Dantes he is a changed man and is very sorry for what he had done. This is why Dantes finally frees him.

Gérard de Villefort- Villefort is the man who sends Dantes to prison. Even though he knew Dantes was inocennt. He has a loving wife and son, but eventually did it for the money. Later on in the book when Dantes is seeking his revenge we see how Villefort had changed. Villefort is now a very wealthy man and had a daughter, named Valentine. He eventually become friend with one of Dantes disquises, but dosen't know until after the fact of Dantes revenge. Instead of killing Villefort, he prosecuts him, which make his wife and son poison them selves. Once this happens Dantes reveals himself to Villefort. Villefort goes crazy insane, and spends the rest of his lif in prison.
